Digital painting done in Procreate based on a three-word suggestion.
The task was to make a character based on three words: Robot, Warrior, and Sword. I sketched out a few poses while exploring ideas of what the character traits would be. I settled on a mixture of sleek and chunky, chunky to show the parts that make up the robot, sleek to give it some aerodynamics like car fenders. I gave it a face that resembles the Japanese Mempo or samurai mask, which was used in battle to protect but also to intimidate. I thought about using darker coloring for the figure but decided that the shininess of the chrome would be scary, like he doesn’t need to hide but instead welcomes battle.
I enjoy challenging myself with idea prompts, they encourage me to explore out of my comfort zone and find new ways to make things work.
